You sure they were IN the park and not in the woods/yards next to the park? Did you see the gun(s)?
Gun blast sounds can sound closer then they appear.

Having been a hunter and outdoorsman all my life, they were, "in my opinion" VERY close to, or in the woods next to the trailer park. Thing is, when a "shots fired" call comes into a police department, any hesitation may cause a loss of life. And, having a problem involving a guns use on my street earlier this month, I felt a call was warranted,,,A SLOWER THAN HUMANLY RESPONSE TIME WAS NOT!

my guess would be what if both cars on duty were involved in something else? Maybe a levy is in order to put more police on the streets? Just a thought..

Heck.. in my area 10 minutes is fast :yup

I wasn't suggesting the call WASN'T warranted. I also have been hunting all my life and know a thing or two about guns, that is why I was asking if you were sure they were IN the park.

I agree, slow response time on a shot fired call isn't good. But I do think we can say that the cops didn't just sit there and say, "Oh, I will take my time. It is just a gun shot." Like Thumper said, what else was going on in Madison? Were the cops on another call? Did many people call on the gun shots and maybe they were checking with another caller before they got to you?

I think 10 minutes is an acceptable amount of time. Unless the police were right there in the area you have to allow time to get dispatched and then come from wherever they are at the time. Maybe they were in South Madison and were delayed by a train. I don't think 10 minutes is bad at all. Heck in Cleveland you'd be LUCKY to have help arrive in 10 minutes with just one phone call!

What's so unusual about a gun shot in the T.W.P. there's nothing illegal about it.... I couldn't imagine the police chasing every gun shot in the T.W.P. :rolleyes

I agree with Thumper, we need more money to get officers out on the street. I have even mentioned this to the chief and he agrees if he had more he could do more. We need the safety forces and we need them to have the equipment to do the job. Now would be a good time for the Chief to get a campaign together and get the information out to the public just how low our fund's are and what it would it take to get everything he needs to do an acceptable job.

I think he is doing a good job for what he has to work with.

I agree with Granpa, however the Chief is very much aware of the tough economic times. He is doing the best he can with the resorces he has. I dont think you will see a police levy in the near future. The twp police recently entered a new contract with agreeing to no pay increase. I have always believed the Madison twp PD care about the over all well being of the community.

I think the Police do a wonderful job here in Madison, I was just concerned, and after reading everyones opinions, I recant my complaint...they did come, and were professional, polite, and concerned.....

Your question is justified. Citizens have a right to ask these type of questions. I see Chief Delcalzo on occasion and he accepts nothing but strong effort from the police department, and he believes in open communication with the citizens.
